Fellow Lions

Thank you for putting your faith in me to lead our club for the next 12 months. I'm a firm believer in 'evolution, not revolution'. It's a sad fact that membership of Lions is in decline in many parts of the developed world, and indeed in our own District. Our club has a proud 57 year history of serving the Howick community, but that doesn't make us immune from this global trend. It's important that we continue to engage with our community, and be prepared to adapt to its changing needs. The same goes for our club. In order to be attractive to new members, and younger members in particular, it's vital that our club flexes in order to remain both relevant and interesting to potential members.

I feel that the establishment of the Howick College Leos Club is one of the most exciting things to happen to our club since I've been a member and I'm keen to forge close ties with our new Leos. After all, they are our future and our link to understanding the needs and motivations of our local young people.

I'm also keen to establish a more varied (but sustainable) income stream, and to be more proactive in the way we distribute our funds. Again, this comes back to understanding the needs of our community and spending money in the right places to best effect.

I'm excited for the year ahead. I've seen our club make significant changes in the short time I've been a member, and this has been instrumental in gaining new members and attaining the coveted Club Excellence Award this year. I look forward to seeing our club continue to evolve and prosper.

Yours
